Intelligent gas metering hits a milestone

Advanced gas meters have reached more than 70,000 installations in New Zealand. 

Advanced gas meters are read remotely via 4G mobile technology once a day, compared to the analogue legacy gas meters which are only read physically once every two months. 

The gas meters use ultrasonic measurement technology​ to record consumption every 30 minutes and send data daily to Bluecurrent’s secure metering data and analytics platform.

• Sustainability is key to supporting the gas transition. The digital gas meters have been tested to remain accurate with up to 20% hydrogen blended with natural gas and with renewable gas.  
• Health and safety is a focus with every site having a gas flow check. More than 600 gas leaks have been identified and resolved. Events and alarms are remotely collected from the meter and identify over-pressure events, meter tampering, and safety alerts.
