Playing our role in enabling the energy transition

Working in partnership with Kāinga Ora, Bluecurrent is proud to be part of a multiple trading trial on up to 200 public homes in Wellington. In the trial, the excess solar created by the Kāinga Ora homes is monetised to help support the ongoing delivery of solar to Kāinga Ora customers.

Our meters are on the majority of the homes taking part. Bluecurrent's advanced data platform provides up to date information on the electricity imported and exported from a home.

This trial demonstrates how public housing roof space can be used as a renewable energy asset, and how these systems can be used to support customers who experience energy hardship.

The trial will gather evidence and build knowledge to support future change into the future.

Kāinga Ora is running the trial in partnership with Ara Ake - New Zealand's future energy center, Wellington Electricity, Bluecurrent and Pāua to the People with support from the Electricity Authority.
