Network Operations Data Service unlocks low voltage network

Data services

Smart meter Network Operations Data Service has been enabled in a first of its kind agreement with Bluecurrent and Orion. Network Operations Data Service provides Orion with opportunities to optimise the capacity and performance of its low voltage network without building more lines and cables.

The ability to see its low voltage data at a granular level via NODS can be enabled for any New Zealand electricity distribution business with customers on Bluecurrent smart meters.

Of the agreement, Orion General Manager Future Network David Freeman-Greene says, Without this smart meter data, we would need to physically install thousands of monitors and meters throughout our network, which would be significantly more costly and time-consuming, and would delay progress on our decarbonisation journey.

Orion will receive data for 195,000 meters on an ongoing basis over a five-year period.
